Bharatiya Janata Party National President Shri Jagat Prakash Nadda addressed the International Women's Day program in Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, New Delhi on Saturday. In his address, Shri Nadda emphasized that under the leadership of Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji, Bharatiya Janata Party has focused on the welfare and empowerment of women in the country. During the program, Delhi CM Smt. Rekha Gupta, BJP Mahila Morcha National President Smt. Vanathi Srinivasan, BJP National Vice President and Delhi Incharge Shri Baijayant Panda, Co-Incharge Smt. Alka Gurjar, Delhi BJP President Shri Virendra Sachdeva, and BJP MP Smt. Kamaljeet Sehrawat and other leaders were present on the stage.

Shri Nadda extended his heartfelt greetings and best wishes to everyone on the occasion of International Women's Day on behalf of himself and the party. He thanked the women of Delhi for their immense contribution in bringing the BJP to power. This victory would not have been possible without their support and blessings. Whether it was the Bharatiya Jana Sangh or the BJP today, the commitment to empowering women has always been strong. As Smt Rekha Gupta mentioned, the party has always encouraged women to step forward in social work. This is not a recent practice, since 1952, when the Jana Sangh was founded, it has worked towards uplifting women. Even back then, Rajmata Vijaya Raje Scindia was appointed as vice president to strengthen women's participation, and this journey continues today.

Shri Jagat Prakash Nadda emphasized Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji's focus on women-led development, stating that women's progress drives global prosperity. Both Jana Sangh and BJP have always prioritized women's empowerment. Building an ‘Atmanirbhar’ and ‘Viksit’ Bharat is not possible without instilling confidence in women. Shri Nadda further congratulated Smt. Vanathi Srinivasan and the team for organizing a remarkable event on the occasion of International Women’s Day. Initiatives such as the 1 Crore Selfie Campaign, 2-day organizational visits, Sneh Yatra, Atal Award, and Sushma Swaraj Award have not only acknowledged women leaders who align with BJP's ideology but also helped bring accomplished women from diverse fields into the mainstream, recognizing their contributions to society through their work.

BJP National President stated that the Nari Shakti Vandan Act, a task that the UPA and other parties were unable to accomplish in three decades, was completed by Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji in just three days. The BJP has the highest number of women in both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, and this law will ensure that 33% of Lok Sabha members are women in the future. Today, women’s leadership can be seen from Panchayat Bhawan to Rashtrapati Bhavan. A woman from our Dalit and Adivasi community is serving as the President of India. Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman is the first woman in Indian history to present the budget eight times consecutively. Late Smt. Sushma Swaraj was the first woman to become a full-time Foreign Minister and made remarkable contributions to the Ministry of External Affairs.

Shri Nadda highlighted that today, women have a strong presence in both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. In 13 BJP-ruled states, two major states have women deputy chief ministers, and Delhi is being led by a woman chief minister. This marks a historic milestone in women’s empowerment, something we should remember with pride. Women have now been fully integrated into the mainstream, and I extend my heartfelt congratulations to all of you for this achievement. Women’s empowerment is not just a symbol of social or political strength, but also of economic empowerment. It serves as the foundation for positive thinking and global progress. The empowerment of women symbolizes not only their strength but also the strength of society and the nation as a whole.

BJP National President expressed his heartfelt appreciation for women like Chief Minister Smt. Rekha Gupta, who, in a male-dominated society, actively engaged in social work while managing their families and children as dedicated members of the Bharatiya Janata Party. Shri Nadda mentioned that currently, 6 crore MSMEs are registered, with 2.5 crore of them being owned by women. This reflects a significant shift in India’s progress. Furthermore, 11.6 lakh women hold director positions in MSMEs, contributing greatly to “Women-Led Development.” Currently, there are 1.4 lakh startups in the country, with 57 thousand of them being women-led. The nation also boasts 1 crore Self-Help Groups, of which 51 lakh are led by women. Under the leadership of Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji, 1 crore women have been empowered as “Lakhpati Didi,” with plans to expand this number to 3 crore “Lakhpati Didi” in the third term.

Shri Jagat Prakash Nadda mentioned that when the country has the right leadership, visible change follows. Today, under the right leadership, Smt. Rekha Gupta has become the woman Chief Minister. It is the result of this leadership that Rajasthan and Odisha now have women serving as Deputy Chief Ministers, and the Speaker of the Odisha Legislative Assembly is also a woman. Women are being empowered in every sector. The Ujjwala Yojana is not just about providing gas cylinders; it is a major step toward women’s empowerment, implemented on the ground by Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji. Having grown up in a village, I often witnessed women who became disabled due to broken bones from falling while collecting wood. There wasn't a village where such incidents did not occur. Women would wake up at 4 AM, venture into the forests to gather wood, and use it to light their stoves. The smoke from these stoves would damage their lungs, equivalent to smoking 200 cigarettes. Despite this, they would still be the first to prepare tea and wake up their families. This was their daily reality, and the Ujjwala Yojana has brought about a positive change in their lives.

BJP National President stated that under the Ujjwala Yojana, today, 12 crore women have been provided with gas cylinders. It is also promised that free cylinders would be given on festivals like Holi and Diwali, and the price of gas cylinders would be kept below ₹500. This scheme has empowered millions of women. Earlier, women had to struggle with smoke in the kitchen, but now, they can prepare tea in 5 minutes and cook a meal in half an hour. This is real empowerment. When I was young and travelled with my father, I would see women in groups carrying small containers (lotas) on the streets at 6 AM. When I asked my father about it, he explained that they were going for open defecation. However, through the Swachh Bharat Mission, 12 crore sisters have been provided with “Izzat Ghar” (toilets), which has given them respect and security. This is not just a scheme, but a significant step towards empowerment. The India of 2014 was very different from the India we see today.

Shri Jagat Prakash Nadda highlighted that today, 12 crore women and their children have been granted the right to live with dignity and security, all thanks to the policies of Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji. Women are now serving as commissioned officers in 12 different security forces, including the Air Force, Army, and Navy. The representation of women in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) fields has reached 47%, which is a significant achievement in women’s empowerment. There have also been considerable improvements in the healthcare sector. In many areas, the female-to-male ratio, which once dropped to 800-900 women per 1,000 men, has now increased to 1,020. As soon as a pregnant woman's name is registered in the portal, three prenatal check-ups are ensured, addressing any potential complications. Due to the efforts of the Ministry of Health, newborns are now receiving 12 different vaccines over 27 sessions. Under the leadership of Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji, maternity leave has been extended from 12 weeks to 26 weeks, ensuring better care and protection for both the mother and the newborn child.

Shri Nadda remarked that Chief Minister Smt. Rekha Gupta had recently spoken about CCTV cameras. The One-Stop Centre and panic button are not just symbolic; pressing the panic button provides immediate assistance, but the government has taken further steps to strengthen the system. Now, the One-Stop Centres offer services such as police support, medical care, legal aid, and counseling, and we are consistently enhancing these services. The women’s helpline has also been made more effective. Recently, the people of Delhi faced a significant crisis and managed to overcome it, for which Delhi deserves praise. However, if women are not safe even in the Chief Minister’s residence of a state, what can we expect regarding security in Delhi?

Shri Jagat Prakash Nadda proudly stated that under the leadership of the woman Chief Minister, Delhi has now become safer. The people of Delhi not only defeated him in the elections but also ensured he didn’t even reach the assembly. He used to say that the Chief Minister of Delhi was “temporary,” but in reality, it was he who was temporary. The public taught him a proper lesson, and Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji showed how women’s empowerment works by giving Delhi a stable woman Chief Minister.  A member of the opposition party, who was a legislator, not only tortured his pregnant wife but even attempted to have her bitten by dogs. This is the same party whose legislator is now in jail on charges of rape and harassment. On one side, there is the Bharatiya Janata Party, which has always been committed to the respect and empowerment of women. On the other side, there is the Aam Aadmi Party, which is tormenting women. The Congress party is no different from the Aam Aadmi Party. Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji abolished Triple Talaq, giving Muslim women the right to live freely, whereas Congress ignored women's rights in the Shah Bano case. During the era of the 21st century, when the Supreme Court ruled in the Shah Bano case that a divorced woman should receive maintenance, Rajiv Gandhi changed the law to make that decision ineffective. This is the true face of the Congress party.

The BJP National President stated that if any political party has truly cared for women, prioritized them, and worked towards bringing them into the mainstream, it is the Bharatiya Janata Party. During the 1984 riots, Congress party leaders had said, “Jab bada ped girta hai, toh dharti hilti hai.”(When a big tree falls, the earth shakes). In those riots, women were not spared either. Bharatiya Janata Party has always prioritized the respect and safety of women. Chief Minister Smt. Rekha Gupta Ji earlier explained how various schemes have been created for the empowerment and protection of women. I would like to congratulate her on this.

BJP National President Shri Jagat Prakash Nadda stated that Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji had announced the Mahila Samriddhi Yojana, and in our Sankalp Patra, we promised to provide ₹2500 assistance to women every month. Today, it brings us great joy that the BJP government in Delhi has allocated ₹5000 crore in the budget to turn this scheme into a reality. When our opponents used to ask, “Kab Aaoge, Kab Aoge?” Today, they have their answer. The efforts made by Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji's government for women will be remembered in history. Now we say, “Tum to gaye, tumhare kaam bhi gaye. Hum aaye aur mahila sashaktikaran ka kaam tezi se aage badh gaya.” I wish the women of Delhi and the country a very Happy International Women's Day. Congratulations to the women of Delhi on the Mahila Samridhi Yojana. This scheme will be implemented immediately, as the Delhi government’s cabinet made the decision today. I also extend my congratulations to Chief Minister Smt. Rekha Gupta for her leadership in this initiative.
