Bharatiya Janata Party's national spokesperson and former Rajya Sabha MP Dr. Syed Zafar Islam addressed an important press conference today (Saturday) on the occasion of the 10 historic years of the MUDRA scheme launched by Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. During the conference, he strongly criticized the DMK and the Congress over the controversial statement made by Tamil Nadu Minister K. Ponmudi against Sanatan Dharma. He demanded that Chief Minister M.K. Stalin immediately remove Ponmudi from his ministerial post and said that Ponmudi must also promptly apologise to the people of the country.

BJP National Spokesperson Dr. Islam stated that today, after President Trump's tariffs, there is concern and uncertainty regarding the global economy across the world. Every country is worried about the impact of these tariffs and the direction in which the global economy will head—whether it will shrink or stagnate. Amidst all this, India is the only country that has emerged as a strong, stable, and self-reliant economy on the global stage. This is a result of the visionary economic policies and reforms of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. While the rest of the world is struggling with instability, India is progressing. Current data on tax collection, power consumption, and the government's various schemes clearly indicate that India's economy is advancing strongly. The reason behind this is the principle of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas” and the ideology of Antyodaya, advocated by the revered Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Ji, which Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi prioritized as soon as he assumed office in 2014.
Dr. Islam stated that it is the result of the visionary thinking of Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi that the revolutionary scheme, the MUDRA Yojana, was launched on April 8, 2015, and its positive outcomes have emerged for all to see. This revolutionary scheme has reached people who were previously neither connected to the banking system nor considered eligible for funding. The successful Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi first opened the path for banking through the Jan Dhan Yojana and then provided financial assistance to people through MUDRA Yojana. Today, over 52 crore entrepreneurs have benefited from this scheme, of which 70% are women. A total of ₹33 lakh crore in loans have been disbursed under this scheme. This figure exceeds the total population of 150 countries. Where it was once difficult for an ordinary rural citizen to get a bank loan, now loans are being given without any collateral. In 2016, the average loan ticket size under the MUDRA scheme was ₹26,000, which has now increased to approximately ₹1.5 lakh.
BJP National Spokesperson Dr. Islam, while taking a jibe at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, said that Congress leaders carry the Constitution in their pockets but do not adhere to its provisions. On the other hand, the Bharatiya Janata Party has fulfilled Baba Saheb Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar's resolve, and more than 50% of the beneficiaries under the MUDRA scheme are from Dalit, Tribal, and OBC communities. Today, the MUDRA scheme has provided a tremendous boost to the MSME sector and accelerated the Indian economy. In 2014, the total bank credit contribution of MSMEs was 15%, which has now increased to 20%. 11% of the beneficiaries belong to the minority community, especially Muslim women, who have been empowered through this scheme
Dr. Islam said that initially, loans up to ₹50,000 were the most common, but now, the number of people taking loans up to ₹5 lakh has reached 45%. This clearly indicates that people are now moving from micro to small enterprises. This has led to an economic revolution in India, starting from rural India and spreading across the country. Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s economic vision has transformed “job seekers” into “job givers.” This scheme has been appreciated by international institutions like the IMF and World Bank and has become a global example, similar to Ayushman Bharat.
BJP National Spokesperson Dr. Islam, while launching a strong attack on the controversial statement made by Tamil Nadu's DMK government minister K. Ponmudi, said that the DMK government in Tamil Nadu is not only involved in corruption but is also attempting to divert attention from its misdeeds by continuously raising issues such as Sanatan Dharma, the Waqf Board, delimitation, and language disputes, thereby trying to divide society. The statement made by DMK's Forest Minister K. Ponmudi against Hinduism, saints, and the Hindi-speaking community is objectionable. This arrogance and boastfulness is merely an attempt to conceal their failures. The Bharatiya Janata Party has repeatedly demanded his dismissal, but the DMK government has taken no action.
Former MP Dr. Islam said that Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji has always respected Tamil culture. Events like Kashi-Tamil Sangamam are proof of this. The Bharatiya Janata Party has always strived to take Tamil culture to global platforms, whereas the DMK government, in an attempt to cover up its corruption, keeps raising baseless issues related to language, caste, and religion, creating confusion. The DMK government and Chief Minister Stalin must understand that the people of the country and Tamil Nadu will not forget this insult. If action is not taken in time, the public will give a decisive response.
