*************

Bharatiya Janata Party national president Shri Amit Shah today commenced ‘Gujarat Gaurav Yatra’ from Porbandar on the occasion of birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. Addressing a public meeting on this occasion, Shri Shah launched scathing attack on the Congress for its efforts to jeopardize the development of Gujarat. State BJP president Shri Jeetubhai Vaghani will lead this’ Yatra’ which began from Porbandar today. The national president had commenced first leg of ‘ Yatra’ led by Deputy Chief Minister Shri Nitin Patel from Karamsad. Earlier, the BJP president also visited ‘Keerti mandir’, the birthplace of Mahatma Gandhi and paid floral tribute to the father of the nation. He said that the fervor and enthusiasm of our workers shows that the party will win more than 150 seats and will form the government in Gujarat this time also.

Shri Shah said that he was commencing ‘Gujarat Gaurav Yatra’ from Porbandar after bowing his head at the feet of Mahatma Gandhi on the occasion of his birth anniversary. Questioning Congress’s efforts to mock at the ‘Yatra’ and the development of Gujarat, Shri Shah said that the opposition parties in Gujarat are mocking at our pride and glory by asking what ‘Gaurav’ and what ‘Yatra’. But we really take pride in Mahatma Gandhi, Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel and Shri Narendra Bhai Modi. We also take pride in our pledge to strive hard to make India a developed nation, the party president asserted.

Continuing his onslaught on the Congress, Shri Shah said that we can take pride of developing Porbandar whereas the Congress did nothing to develop the city. Elaborating that the development journey of Gujarat can be divided in three parts, the BJP president said that since independence to the carving of Gujarat as a separate state, it can be called as first phase of this journey, whereas from the era of Congress regime after separate statehood until 1995 can be termed as the second phase. The third and most vital period of this journey began in 1995 when the BJP was elected to power. The development drive which began after 1995 scaled such heights under the leadership of Shri Narendra Modi that people across the country have started citing the example of development in Gujarat. It is indeed a matter of great pride.

Blaming the Congress for its dereliction towards social harmony and excessive reliance on appeasement, Shri Shah said that the Congress gave worst kind of communal riots to Gujarat and its regime was teeming with rampant chaos and hooliganism. The anti-social elements which used to torment the people, were put behind the bars by the BJP government in Gujarat. Recalling how the party initiated its anti-hooliganism drive, Shri Shah said that the BJP had formed a committee against hooliganism when it was in the opposition and when the party came to power, both goons and the Congress were defeated and abolished. We have the credit for making curfew-free Gujarat, the party president added.

Shri Shah said that the BJP also takes pride in providing piped water to every household whose women folk had to travel miles with pitchers on their heads for water during the Congress rule. The BJP president said that the party is proud of its efforts to take the water of holy mother Narmada not only to Saurashtra but also to the traditionally parched land of Kutch and Rajasthan. Party can also take pride of building lakhs of check-dams in the state to bring in a permanent end to recurring draughts. Under the Congress dispensation, Gujarat was compelled to live in darkness for frequent power cuts of more than 12 hours, whereas the BJP government has been providing 24 hour power supply and we are proud of it, he said.

The BJP president said that Pt. Jawahar Lal Nehru laid the foundation stone of Sardar Sarovar in 1961 even before I was born but it was Shri Narendra Modi who completed the project and from now we can take water to every farm field in Gujarat. Shri Shah said that the party was proud of Shri Narendra Modi for his rigorous efforts for making India glorious during his stint as the Chief Minister of Gujarat and now as the Prime Minister of India. People across the globe eagerly await to greet Shri Modi and this is salutation to six crore Gujaratis, Shri Shah said. Launching a scathing attack on the Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi, Shri Shah said that Rahul Gandhi frequently asks the performance track record of Bharatiya Janata Party government. Instead, he should tell Gujarat why injustice was meted out to Gujarat during the reign of his family's three generations, Shri Shah added. Ten years of UPA government under Dr. Manmohan Singh and Mrs. Sonia Gandhi were fraught with scams and corruption to the tune of Rs 12 Lakh crore, whereas the Modi government have provided transparent, corruption–free, and decisive administration in its three years in office, he said. Even our staunchest opponents could not level a single charge of corruption against any of our ministers, Shri Shah declared.

Taking strong offence on Congress for its goonda jibe at the army chief, Shri Shah said that after Uri terror attack our brave soldiers risked their lives while they successfully carried out the surgical strikes. Congress party called the top most general of such brave jawans as goonda, Rahul Gandhi should answer first as to what action he has taken against such Congress leaders. Detailing how three generations of Congress party did injustice to Gujarat born leaders, Shri Shah said that the first generation of Congress did injustice with Sardar Patel, the second generation did injustice with the sixth Prime Minster Shri Morarji Desai and the third generation committed injustice with the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, ‘Vikas-Purush’ of India. Congress should reply, he said.

The BJP president said that in 13th Finance commission under Dr Manmohan Singh led UPA, share of Gujarat in central taxes was merely Rs.43,345 crore.

The Modi Government has hiked it to Rs1,22,453 crore in the 14th Finance Commission, which is almost three times more than what the previous regime sanctioned, the party president informed. Shri Shah said that Grant-in- aid to Gujarat has also been increased to Rs. 15,962 crore from Rs.8,486 crore. Allocation of Local Bodies Grant has been increased five-fold from Rs. 2,723 crore to Rs.15042 crore, the BJP President stated.Similarly disaster relief fund has also been hiked to Rs 2,920 crore from the earlier allocation of Rs 2,081 crore. An aggregate sum of Rs.1,58,377 crore has been allocated to the state by the Modi Government, whereas under Congress lead UPA Government it was merely Rs. 63,346 crore.

Stating that the Modi government has done a lot of work in Gujarat, be it revenue sharing, highways, Narmada yojana, international airport in Rajkot and bullet-train project in Ahmedabad. Border security has also been beefed up in Gujarat but Rahul Gandhi cannot see the development in Gujarat due to his apparent Italian outlook. The BJP government under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narenra Modi has undertaken 106 schemes for the all-round welfare and development of villages, poor, Dalits, Tribes, backwards, farmers, youth and women but a few people are making fun of development.

Ridiculing the Congress‘s day dreaming of wresting power in Gujarat, the national president said that the BJP has swept elections in almost all the states after the party ascended to power at the centre in 2014 under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. If Rahul Gandhi indeed wants to see the development in Gujarat he should visit Gujarat instead of his frequent sabbaticals in foreign.

Congress party and its three generations committed grave injustice to Gujarat since independence, the people of Gujarat will never forgive Congress for this and will give a befitting reply in the upcoming assembly election, Shri Shah stated. Citing the rising financial stature of Gujarat under the BJP rule, the national president reiterated that the annual budget of the state in 1995-96 was just Rs 10,232 crore whereas it has exponentially risen to Rs 1,72,680 crore in 2017.

The party president said that per capita income of Gujarat was just Rs 13,665 in the year 1995-96, whereas it has risen to Rs 1,43,504 in 2017 which is way ahead than the national average. There has been a tectonic shift in the development narrative of Gujarat after the BJP came to power in 1995, Shri Shah said. Shri Modi took the dairy development to Suarshtra and Kutch whereas earlier it was limited to the southern and northern Gujarat, the party president elaborated. Recalling how the Modi government in Gujarat initiated the reforms in ailing cooperative sector, Shri Shah said that these efforts paid dividend and the cooperative bodies in the state are very strong today. Cooperative bodies used to provide farm loans at the unbelievably higher interest rate of 14%, Shri Shah said that the same cooperative institutes have been providing farm loans at 1% interest rate. Not only this, the Modi government has hiked the allocation of NABARD to Rs 41, 000 crore whereas earlier it was merely Rs 21, 000 crore. Shri Shah said that Gujarat registered a phenomenal rise in agriculture output during the BJP regime after 1995. While the agriculture output in 1995-96 was merely 47 lakh metric tons, it has now reached to 63 lakh metric tons. Similarly, the fruit production in 1995-96 was meager 21 lakh metric tons which has now touched the historic landmark of 86 lakh metric tons, Shri Shah added. Vegetable production also witnessed a six fold rise and touch the landmark of 126 lakh metric tons. The production of spices has also been increased from 2 lakh metric tons to 8.6 lakh metric tons.

Terming Shri Narendra Modi as ‘Vikas Purush’, Shri Shah said that he has let the development engine move first as the Chief Minister and now as the Prime Minister. Exhorting the party workers to ensure that the party won over 150 seats to form a development-oriented and welfare BJP government in the state, Shri Shah said that workers should take the development story of Gujarat under Shri Narendra Bhai Modi to every village and every person through ‘Gujarat Gaurav Yatra’.
