The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, today addressed an election rally in Srinagar in Jammu and Kashmir.

The Prime Minister said that he had been informed that after 1983, for the first time, a rally was organized at this venue. He thanked the people for the love they had shown him by turning up in such large numbers, and said he would return this love with interest, through development.

The Prime Minister said there was only one cure to the problems faced to by the people. He said whatever avenues had been pursued over the past 30 years had not brought any benefit to the people. He said the only avenue that would cure all problems was development. He said his mantra was "Sabka saath. Sabka Vikas." He said no community or person should be discriminated against.

The Prime Minister said once upon a time, people were extremely keen to come to the Kashmir valley. They came from all parts of India, and therefore, the youth of Kashmir never had to leave the valley to find employment, the Prime Minister said. 

The Prime Minister said he had been visiting Jammu and Kashmir every month, beginning July. He said he had come to share the pain of the people, and not to demand anything. He said it was his responsibility to return the love of the people. He said he had to complete the work begun and the dreams of Jammu and Kashmir. He said Atal ji had spoken of insaniyat, kashmiriyat and jamhooriyat, and he was confident that taking these three things forward.

The Prime Minister said army jawans, police jawans and ordinary people had all lost their lives in Kashmir. He said he shared the pain and anguish of the people. He said he wanted to take Kashmir to new heights of development. He said tourism had to be revived in Kashmir, as people from all over the world wanted to visit Kashmir. He said with a little bit of infrastructure development, tourism would boom in the region. 

The Prime Minister also spoke of the immense hydropower potential of the state of Jammu and Kashmir, and said it could energize the entire country. 

The Prime Minister also assured the people of both Jammu and Kashmir regions that the Centre would do its best to ameliorate the sufferings and make good the losses suffered by the people due to the recent natural calamity (floods). 

The Prime Minister said he had spent the day of Diwali meeting flood-affected people in Srinagar. He said he had felt that the people of Kashmir did not trust the state government, but trusted him.

The Prime Minister said successive governments in the state of Jammu and Kashmir had failed to serve the people of the state. He said the state needed to be free of the evil of corruption. He said the time had come to fight against the evils of underdevelopment and corruption.

The Prime Minister recalled that whenever he went to Kutch in Gujarat, he did not speak of Pakistan, but spoke of development and solving the problems of Kutch. He said Kutch had now become the fastest-growing district in the country. He said if Kutch could move forward, after suffering the catastrophic earthquake, so could Kashmir. 

The Prime Minister said army and police jawans had served people by putting their lives on their line. 

He said when some armymen had recently committed a mistake and killed two innocent youth, it was for the first time under the Modi Government, that immediate action had been taken.

He urged the people to elect the BJP with a full majority in the state of Jammu and Kashmir.
