Press Statement issued by BJP National Spokesperson and MP
Sh. Prakash Javadekar

1. The latest revelations by Mumbai police after the arrest of five Pakistan-trained militants belonging to Indian Mujahideen (IM) warrant immediate response from the central Government. Large catch of Ammunition, weapons and explosives recovered from them clearly indicate the preparation for next terror attack. The reports of various state police, security and intelligence agencies have established direct role of Indian Mujahideen (IM) in blasts carried out since 2005 in cities like Banglore, Hyderabad, Varansai, Ahmedabad, Jaipur and Delhi. Interestingly, Indian Mujahideen (IM) has claimed reponsibility for many of these attacks. Every time e-mail was sent by its members practically repeating the same logic for such acts of terror all over again. E-mail messages are also intended to create communal frenzy.

The police have now enough and hard evidence to prove nexus of IM with other terror outfits like ISI, HUJI and LeT. The ideologue of both SIMI and IM is one and the some terrorist Safdar Nagori. It is clear from the evidences collected so far, that IM and SIMI are the two sides of the some coin.

It is curious to see the Congress led UPA government talking 'tough', but acting 'soft'. BJP is perplexed to find governments' inaction to act tough against IM. It is beyond comprehension that while SIMI is banned, the IM is left out. BJP demand immediate ban on Indian Mujahideen (IM) under, unlawful Activities (prevention) Act 1967.

2. Congress has a deliberate strategy to confuse the nation by giving different statements by different leaders, on different occasions regarding tough action against terror. Sh. Rahul Gandhi's statement is also part that strategy to 'confuse'. While Rahul is talking of a new tough low against terror, minister after minister in Manmohan Singh Govt. is asserting that it had no such intention Moli Committee recommends something else. Now it is clear that Congress leaders are paying lip sense to douse the public anger, by talking tough against terror but in reality acting soft on terror to cater vote bank politics. Their strategy is to continue and comfound confusion on this topic.

BJP wants to remind Sh. Rahul Gandhi that POTA is not a falied Act but not hanging Afzal, who is convicted under POTA is an example of a failed Govt. It is not the POTA but the UPA, which has failed.

BJP wants to put two posers to Sh. Rahul Gandhi.

- What are the deficiencies of POTA, with reasons ?

- What will be the provisions of the new law, which will be tough but different from POTA ?

BJP challenges him for a comprehensive debate on terrorism. BJP has amply made clear that we want tough Act, comprehensive strategy to combat terrorism. The name of the law is not important. If Congress does not approve the name POTA, it can name it SOTA or even Rahul Act. But Govt. must act tough and defeat terrorism.

Congress logic that riots and rath yatra has instigated terrorism is not only absurd but it is justifying terrorism. How can Congress then explain global terrorism.

3. SP leader Shri Amar Singh's accusations are a classic act of, "pot calling the kettle black". It is stage managed show by the alleged bribe giver. It is an effort to influence and intimidate the witness. It is an interference in ongoing parliamentary enquiry. It is violation of parliamentary privilege.

The witness, who was to depose today is found in his house on the same day is a matter for enquiry. Facts speak for themselves. BJP hopes that committee will react to this breach of privilege.
