Press statement issued by Shri Prakash Javadekar
BJP National Spokesperson and MP on Assam Violence

Communal attacks by Bangladeshi infiltrators on minority Bodo Hindus is a matter of grave concern for the country. More than 40 people have died, 500 are grievously injured, 50000 people have been compelled to flee their villages and take shelter into camps. It is a matter of national shame that state government headed by Congress chief minister Shri Tarun Gogoi has allowed the situation to drift for last one month and did not make adequate security arrangements for Bodos, who were relentlessly attacked by the settlers.

BJP demands immediate action against Assam state government as it has failed miserably to protect life and property of Bodos in the state. Thousands of houses have been burnt and looted after Bodos were forced to flee the villages.

Bangladeshi settlers, who have illegally infiltrated in to the country, have concentrated in Darrang and Dalgaon area. In many villages these settlers have outnumbered original Hindu population and have targeted such villages for attacks. It's a full fledged conspiracy as infiltrators attacked hundreds of vehicles carrying Durga Puja idols. The Kalibari temple in Botabari village was also attacked. Even Pak and Bangladeshi flags were hoisted at hundreds of places which is a clear danger signal as it connotes yet another valley in the making.

BJP condemns the attacks and subsequent loss of life. BJP Also condemns state govt. for its negligence. What is worse is that people taking shelter in camps are neither provided adequate relief nor allowed help from N. G. Os and social organizations.

BJP condemns central government's selective attitude of targeting states ruled by opposition parties and ignore incidences in congress ruled states. BJP demands immediate intensification detection and deportation of illegal Bangladeshi immigrants.
