Statement of Shri Ravi Shankar Prasad
National Spokesperson & MP

The BJP is deeply concerned over the political theatre of the absurd being played in Delhi designed to save the tottering UPA Government wherein governance has become a serious casualty. The inflation today has risen to 11.63% and in stead of taking proper effective steps to contain price rise, we are finding the worst kind of opportunistic politics being played. In fact this was bound to happen because the very existence of UPA was the result of declared political negativism that is anti BJP. There was no other common ground. This subsequently degenerated into a politics of convenience where some parties try to withdraw from the temporary parking lot known as the UNPA and switch over to the UPA and others like the Communists are waiting for the opportune date to withdraw support. This politics of convenience is taken to further absurd limits wherein, Samajwadi Parties declared opposition to dynastic politics is suddenly replaced by the alleged larger danger of the BJP and an apology is given for preventing Mrs. Sonia Gandhi from becoming the Prime Minister in the year 1998. This is political opportunism at its worst.

The BJP strongly condemns the language of BJP being enemy no.1 being employed by some leaders of the Samajwadi Party to justify their opportunism. The BJP rejects the whole concept of anyone being enemy in the democratic and political civil society of India as it goes against the very essence of healthy democratic norms in a vibrant democracy like ours. The BJP apart from being Principal Opposition Party is the ruling Party in twelve States of India either by itself or in coalition. Neither the Congress, nor the Left, nor the Samajwadi Party or other anti NDA political forces have been able to stop this march nor, would ever succeed because the BJP enjoys substantial support of the people of India. The hard fact remains that be it the Congress, the Left, the RJD, Samajwadi Party or other allies in the UPA; all are mighty afraid of facing the election. Hence, we see the absurd theatre of political opportunism.

This state of uncertainty, threatened withdrawal of the Left and speculative support of the Samajwadi Party to the present Union Government has created a situation of complete paralysis in government. Major decisions are under cloud and foreign policy also is being made a victim of communal politics. It is evident that very soon the inflation figure would touch the figure of 13-14%. The UPA Government has clearly run out of ideas and now, it has no new alibi left because it is to busy in survival. The BJP is confident that the people of India have seen through their games and would serve severe punishment to them in the coming polls.
