Press Statement issued by BJP National Spokesperson The lifting of ban on SIMI vindicates BJP’s larger charge that the UPA government is soft peddling on terrorism. The inability of the government to furnish “Fresh” evidence to the Delhi High Court Tribunal raises serious doubts about the intent of the government to fight terror in such pressing times. What is most shocking is the fact that the Tribunal apparently has been cautioning the union government for over two weeks that they have not produced enough material evidence to press their charge for maintaining the ban on SIMI. SIMI which is fraught with radical fundamentalism perpetrating and sheltering terror across the nation with bonafide evidences against them stands absolved by the seemingly willful inaction of the Union Home Ministry. It is in public domain that SIMI established with fundamentals of waging Jihad, who brand all non – muslims as ‘Kafirs’ (enemies of God) with an aim to establish ‘Dar–ul–Islam (land of Islam), a philosophy of Taliban with overt patronage of Osama Bin Laden and links with Al – Qaida and ISI, Lashkar-e-Taiba, Jaish-e-Mohammad, HUJI - B has been astoundingly given a clean chit. The organization which maintains that secularism, democracy and nationalism, the keystones of Indian Constitution are antithetical to Islam now stand emboldened to pursue their separatist designs. SIMI banned thrice earlier was absolved as the government chose to give no definite evidence beyond 2001 which makes the action of the government shrouded. Amazingly the Home Ministry has failed to acknowledge which the nation has witnessed glaringly in last six years - the blasts in Malegaon, the Mumbai train serial blasts, blowing of Railway tracks in West Bengal, the attack on Ayodhya Complex, the Ghatkopar Bomb Blast, Lumbini amusement park blast in Hyderabad, serial blasts in Lucknow, Faizabad and Varanasi courts and now the recent blasts in Jaipur, Bangalore and Ahmedabad with charges of SIMI’s involvement. The state governments of Kerala, AP, MP, UP, Delhi, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Bihar, WB, Assam, Karnataka are loaded with evidence of complicity of SIMI and have promptly acted against the outfit for their involvement in acts of terror with proofs such as transportation of gelatin sticks, fake currency, arms, shelter to militants, timer device explosions, inciting secessionist movement, printing antinational literatures, blasts killing innocents, here we have a Home Minister and the Home Ministry which says it has nothing against SIMI after 2001. In light of the aforementioned facts the BJP would categorically ask the government whether the Home Minister was in slumber and when it had to depose concrete evidence against the Tribunal or is it a part of a greater design. Is it a part of the deal struck by the government to remain in power as witnessed recently during the vote of confidence. It is a part of the same commitment which was espoused by the Samajwadi Party Chief Mulayam Singh Yadav by lifting the ban on SIMI in Uttar Pradesh. Is the failure of the Home Ministry to press the ban on SIMI a larger game plan. Does the recent act of the government substantiate BJP’s charge on UPA government indulging in appeasement politics. The country has every right to know how and why first time in History the government evidence (produced under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act. against a proclaimed terrorist organisation) has been set aside by the court. The country would like to know is the government opposed to the ban on SIMI? The action of the Union Government is suspect and BJP demands for immediate sacking of the delinquent Home Minister. Since the Prime Minister is the direct beneficiary of the suspicion cast, the Nation deserves an explanation. (Shyam
